New Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer Is Magnifico

Is this the real life?

The first full trailer of the long-gestating Queen and Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, has been released onto the internet. Rami Malek is out from behind the computer and rocking the mic with style in the first trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody. In the upcoming Queen biopic, which has been 8 years in the making, the Mr. Robot star takes on the role of legendary rocker Freddie Mercury.

The 97-second sneak peek dropped Tuesday morning, opening with Malek in an iconic white cape, then cutting to the look-alike in a series of on-stage snippets as beats from Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Killer Queen” play throughout, leading to the unforgettable, lively 1985 Wembley Stadium crowd. Malek makes for a pretty convincing Mercury duplicate. We also get a brief glimpse at a nearly unrecognizable Mike Myers, who warns Mercury that “Bohemian Rhapsody” is too long. “It goes on forever! It’s six bloody minutes!” he gripes.

The film has been in the works since at least 2010 when it was announced that Sacha Baron Cohen was to play Mercury, however, Baron Cohen left the project in 2013 citing creative differences with Mercury’s former bandmates. Malek was cast last July, and the project was finally put on the fast track, with director Bryan Singer at the helm. However, trouble reared its head again last November, when production was halted on the film, reportedly because Singer failed to return to the set after the Thanksgiving holiday. Within days, English actor and director Dexter Fletcher was tapped as the replacement.

Bohemian Rhapsody, which also stars Mike Myers and Aidan Gillen, opens in theaters on November 2.
