Deadpool Writers Interested In Writing For The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Talk about a nerdgasm!

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are on a roll now following the recent release of Deadpool 2. They’ve come a long way since their early days with Zombieland and despite a brief hiccup with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the duo are now reputable screenwriters in their own right. Although, most of their experience thread in the realm of Rated-R action comedies, there seems to be a prospect of them working on an Avengers film.

In a recent AMA on Reddit, Reese and Wernick discussed their films and other topics. A question from a fan rose, asking them if there would be interested in heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly to tackle an Avengers film. They responded with a simple “Yes, please”.

We know that they are willing to take on such monumental task. Avengers: Infinity War broke box office records and is now the fourth highest grossing film of all time along with earning critical praise. The chances of them writing for Avengers 4 is highly unlikely due to the Russo brothers being on board to direct it along with frequent collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely returning to write.

However, the chances of another Avengers in the future does seem likely cause Disney would no doubt want to keep the money coming in. So, Avengers 5 seems like a good horse to bet on. However, Reese and Wernick have a pretty packed schedule to go along with these prospects with plans for a Zombieland sequel along with plans to pen the adaptation of Ubisoft’s video game Watch Dogs.

It’s a wonder how their style of writing would translate to the MCU though but if anything, it might even serve to better it. That’s not to say that the MCU’s scripts are bad (they’re quite good actually) but some of the humour can be a little hit-or-miss. The potential is there though and let’s see if Kevin Feige and gang would use it.
