The Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie May Still Be On

A new rumour suggests the film will begin shooting in Belfast early next year.

For some time now, rumours have been swirling that Disney is planning to make a standalone movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi master who helped both Anakin and Luke Skywalker grow into their gifts. What’s more, word has been that Disney would shoot the movie at Titanic Studios in Belfast, long the home base for Game of Thrones.

Despite the film not being officially announced, the Belfast Telegraph reports the Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film will start shooting in April 2019 in Belfast. The report comes out of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series choosing to shoot in Belfast in October.

An Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film has been rumoured for quite some time with Stephen Daldry reportedly directing and Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi master. If this report is correct, it would be the first Star Wars film in the Disney era to not shoot at Pinewood Studios in the UK.

There has also been a rumored Boba Fett standalone film floated around as well with James Mangold attached. However, the only Star Wars films that have been officially announced by Lucasfilm is a trilogy from Rian Johnson and a new series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss.

Even though the news about the Obi-Wan spin-off filming soon is exciting, it’s important to note that nothing has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm about the project. So, we’ll have to take this new report with a grain of salt until anything is proven otherwise. Hopefully, some news about the highly anticipated spin-off will be announced soon, whether it’s happening or not.
