Aquaman Will Be “Like Star Wars Underwater” According to Star Jason Momoa

If this is true, the DCEU is on the right track.

There’s a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Aquaman film with Jason Momoa in the titular role. His introduction in Justice League wasn’t phenomenal and neither was the film itself but the next one looks like it could really bring the DCEU back on the right track. Not a lot is known about Aquaman but it looks like it’ll be offering an adventure likening to that of Star Wars, at least according to Momoa himself.

Speaking to Collider, Momoa revealed some information regarding the film and his role. He was asked on the film’s tone along with how the film would be likening to that of classic adventure pieces like Romancing the Stone and the iconic Raiders of the Lost Ark. To that, Momoa revealed that Aquaman will be like Star Wars….. but underwater. He said:

“It’s like Star Wars, it’s just a world we haven’t seen before. And, I think the bickering between the two of them [Aquaman and Mera] and also when they slowly start to enjoy each other and fall in love, I think it’s just a timeless story that’s just fun. And, I love the fact that we haven’t been underwater and, like, what we showed at Comic-Con was just showing that it’s gonna be like, when the shit hits the fan it’s gonna be like Star Wars underwater-it’s cool! I’m a huge fuckin’ Star Wars fan and I’ll never be anything remotely as good as Indiana Jones, but we can sure as fuck try! [laughs] I mean, like, I’ll never ever, ever beat him, but if we’re modeling after that, then, great, I’ll do my best. It’s something good to strive for.”

Well, this definitely alleviates some skepticism surrounding the film. Momoa is definitely passionate about these classic pictures and based off his words, the film is definitely aiming to capture this magic. Both Star Wars and the Indiana Jones trilogy (yes, just the trilogy) are gems of Hollywood and with these references in mind, Aquaman would be able to deliver a fun adventure for all ages.

Hopefully, director James Wan will be able to pull it off as he has done so in the past with The Conjuring and Furious 7. With a solid director and lead man, Aquaman is looking to be a return to form for the DCEU.

Aquaman is set to be released in December 21, 2018
