Guardians Of The Galaxy: Dave Bautista Aims To Quit If James Gunn’s Script Isn’t Used

It wouldn’t be the same without it.

Things are starting to look a little uncertain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe following director James Gunn’s firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, the director has gotten much support from many fans along with the cast of the Guardians films with hopes of him being reinstated. One member of the cast has been very strong in his support for the director, that being Drax himself Dave Bautista.

Bautista has taken to Twitter on various occasions to express support for the director amidst his firing and it seems like the actor only wants to reprise his role if Gunn is involved in the project in some way. Gun wrote the first draft of the script for the film but will all this going on, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Disney’s hires a new writer. Bautista on the other hand is not a big fan of that idea.

Speaking to Shortlist, the actor discussed the matter at hand and clarified that no one is defending his old tweets that got him fired, tweets of which included jokes related to rape and pedophilia. However, he is adamant on his stance believing it to be smear campaign. Moreover, he added that he would want to drop out if they don’t use his script. He said:

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”

Gotta respect the WWE legend as it would be fairly dumb to scrap a perfectly good script. It’s already done so might as well give the man who knows the series in and out some form of participation. Disney can afford to hire a new director and writer so it wouldn’t be a big deal to them but it’s a wonder how different things would be with this change. Bautista has expressed that he’s only doing this out contractual obligation but he definitely won’t be very happy about it.
