Tom Hardy Is Open To Doing A Rated-R Venom Movie

I think a lot of people would Tom.

We’re very close to finally seeing the end product of the long awaited Venom film starring Tom Hardy and box-office projections are pointing to a good start for the film. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the film follows journalist Eddie Brock as he investigates The Life Foundation to find himself in contact and bonded with an alien symbiote which gives him superpowers. For some time, there has been speculation regarding the film being Rated-R but in the end, the film will be rated PG-13 so take that as you will.

A recent clip from the film surfaced featuring Eddie Brock/Venom taking down a bunch of armed men mercilessly. Although the little over 30 second clip was pretty cool, it’s a wonder how cool it would have been if it was Rated-R. The film going the PG-13 route can open the possibility of future tie-ins with the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is pretty kid-friendly in itself. We might not get a Rated-R Venom film this time around but star Tom Hardy seems to be very much open to it.

Hardy and co-star Riz Ahmed spoke to MTV about the film and the topic of the film’s rating came up. Hardy spoke on the matter revealing he’s quite open with doing a Rated-R spin on the character although he does admit that he believes the character can stand in both a PG-13 and R nature. He said:

“To be fair the thing could fulcrum into R-rated. It can fulcrum into for youth or children. My littlest ones they watch Spider-Man and Venom quite comfortably, and Venom toys appear and Lego appear in my nostrils in the morning. So it’s not like they’re scared by him, but at the same time, there’s a lot with the real estate that you can actually imbue with a complete sense of gratuitous ultraviolence if you really wanted to. And I think you’ve got the right people for that job if you want to push it because that’s where I’d love to go with it. And I’d love to go through all The Avengers as well with him. But that’s above my pay grade.”

Make it happen Tom! Well, we saw Venom in a PG-13 film before but that didn’t really work out all that well and yes, it’s Spider-Man 3. That’s not to say that a PG-13 Venom would suck cause there have been plenty of good PG-13 films that were dark and pretty violent such as The Dark Knight or even Jurassic Park.

If we do get a Rated-R Venom, it would be awesome and it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to integrate it into the MCU. If Fox can do it with Logan and Deadpool in regards to the X-Men franchise, the MCU would probably be able to pull it off. Then again, there are still plenty of factors at play here.

Venom is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2018
