Avengers: Infinity War Is Making Money Faster Than The Force Awakens and Jurassic World

It’s just been two weeks!

Is there any record Avengers: Infinity War can’t break? In just two weeks, the 19th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already outgrossed almost every single comic book movie ever made, including the entirety of the DCEU and X-Men movies (including the hugely successful Deadpool) at the global box office.

Within the first week, Infinity War easily brushed away the likes of Justice League (US$ 657 million), Man of Steel (US$ 668 million) and Suicide Squad (US$ 746 million). Now, after two weeks, the Avengers threequel has grossed the golden US$ 1 billion dollars mark, zooming past Wonder Woman (US$ 821 million) and also DCEU’s most successful film, Batman V Superman (US$ 873 million). In fact, Infinity War is the fastest film to gross over US$ 1 billion at the global box office (11 days), faster than Star Wars: The Force Awakens (12 days), Jurassic World (15 days) and The Fate of the Furious (19 days).

The insane thing is, Infinity War is hitting these numbers without China’s help as it’s only set to hit Chinese screens on the 11th of May. If we look solely at the North American box office, Infinity War is the second biggest second weekend ever, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It’s unfair of me to single out the DCEU, though. Infinity War has also outgrossed other successful DC movies like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, both of which grossed slightly more than US$ 1 billion. It also, to nobody’s surprise smashed Fox’s X-Men properties, including the highly successful Deadpool (US$ 783 million), but as I’ve mentioned in the past, Fox is playing a completely different game right now, making highly unique movies with much smaller budgets.

The only comic book movies that have made more money than Infinity War are all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — The Avengers (1.5 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron (US$ 1.4 billion), Black Panther (US$ 1.3 billion) and Iron Man 3 (US$ 1.2 billion). With the assistance of the Chinese market, there is no doubt that Infinity War will easily outgross Iron Man 3 and Black Panther. Then, things will get tricky, as it’ll run into some serious competition in Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Currently, Avengers: Infinity War is the 15th highest grossing movie of all time, at the global box office.
