Black Panther Wins Big At SAG Awards 2019

Kind of surprised to be honest.

Awards season is looking pretty damn good for the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to last year’s Black Panther. Along with becoming the first comic book film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, the film is also getting some love at the recent SAG Awards.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2019 honors, you guessed it- acting from various films and television shows in 2018. The MCU flick came out surprisingly victorious against its more dramatic counterparts winning the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture against some steady competitors including A Star is Born, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and Crazy Rich Asians. Black Panther also took home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

It’s cool that Black Panther is getting some love but let’s be honest here, in terms of performances… maybe they shouldn’t have won. Come on, BlacKkKlansman made me believe that Adam Driver really was a jew who wanted to be a White Supremacist and well, Ballad of Buster Scruggs definitely had a ton of big names giving some fantastic performances so yeah, maybe just a nomination for the MCU flick would have sufficed. But hell, I’m not gonna hate… I’m just happy it didn’t go to Crazy Rich Asians.
