Kevin Smith Thinks Tom Cruise Should Join Marvel As Wolverine

Not entirely sure on that but he highlights some other interesting options.

We probably wouldn’t be seeing Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine once the Disney-Fox merger is finalized but that doesn’t mean we would not be seeing Wolverine on the big screen in the future. The merge could see the X-Men and Fantastic Four joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe but as for the iconic Wolverine, things are still unclear. Marvel may very well replace Jackman with a younger actor for the role but filmmaker Kevin Smith known for his indie classic Clerks thinks Tom Cruise would be great as Wolverine.

Speaking to Marc Bernardin on the Fatman Beyond show, Smith expressed some thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in regards to the Mission: Impossible star. He said, “I look forward to them bringing him [Cruise] into the comic book world. Like, I think he’s ripe for a Marvel takeover.”.

It would be cool to see Cruise in the MCU but it’s best to note that he’s part of the best action franchise today, that is of course, the M:I franchise and there are two more films on the way. This was highlighted by Bernardin but Smith thinks Cruise should take a leap to Marvel, adding:

“He’s got this franchise, which is huge for him but, like, you’re not getting any younger and it’s, you know, those movies they can add life to a mother f–ker’s career. Could you imagine if they made him a bad guy in a movie? He’d be so f–king good. I’m still a Tom Cruise buyer. I’d buy that product.”

Ethan HuntBernardin suggested that Cruise would make a pretty cool Striker if the X-Men series were to face a reboot sometime but Smith thinks he could be the iconic Wolverine, saying “No, f–k that. Make him Wolverine. Tom Cruise’s Wolverine makes a billion dollars.”

Damn Smith, I love Cruise too but Wolverine? That role belongs to Jackman and even replacing him would be a pretty big deal. Smith does highlight some other roles Cruise could pull such as Professor X and Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards, the latter of which would honestly be perfect but he went back to the idea of Cruise taking on Wolverine.

WolverineSmith doesn’t have any say in the MCU casting department so this is just wishful thinking but hell, what would Cruise as Wolverine be like? A turn as Wolverine could raise some brows but it would be nice to see the actor in the MCU and that Reed Richards idea sounds awesome. We’ll probably get more developments on that in the future but for now, we’ll just wait.
