With the release of Avengers: Endgame inching closer and closer, we’re bombarded with theories galore on what will unfold in the upcoming film. The stakes seem pretty high and it looks like the O.G. Avengers would have a lot to deal with but one thing that needs to be addressed is how much could the original six deal with moving forward.
Infinity War saw half the cosmos wiped out thanks to Thanos’ infamous finger snap which also saw a number of our heroes wiped out. Some of our heroes that remained alive happened to be the O.G. Avengers which are Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye. With this in mind, it looks like these guys might have to go all out to save the world even if it means sacrificing themselves in the process.
We know that Marvel has plans for some of the characters that were wiped out in Infinity War and so we can expect them to return in Endgame but at what cost? One theory suggests that a second snap from the Mad Titan could bring much of these heroes back and no, it can’t be to the beat of some bossa nova tune.
Reddit user SammyWalks theorizes that the second snap could occur bringing back much of the heroes that were dusted in the previous films but at the expense of the O.G. Avengers. To check out the full theory, click here but to summarize, the theory suggests that the original six have beaten time in their own ways and have seen too much. Cap saw Bucky and Falcon die, Thor lost almost everything, Iron Man saw Spidey die in his arms, Hawkeye tried to walk away and lost his family, Black Widow has seen multiple government agendas fail and Bruce Banner is having some trouble with his Hulk persona.
With this, the O.G. six would try to prevent the first snap from occurring in the first place or even force Thanos to snap again but this time, with a less catastrophic outcome, eliminating the six of them in the process. This would leave the newbies (to the screen) like Black Panther, Ant Man and even Captain Marvel alive along with many others who have not been beaten time and time again.
The theory is interesting and perhaps even a little complicated but it wouldn’t make much sense for the O.G. Avengers to do so cause that would still mean putting the world on the line. It’s out of character for them to let a different set of people to die even if it were to allow a greater sum of people to survive even if they were to sacrifice themselves.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if some of the O.G. Avengers or maybe even all of them would sacrifice themselves to save the world. With this, we would see some of the newbies taking on the mantle possibly being the next Avengers. However, it’s still hard to say what would unfold in Endgame so we’ll just have to wait.
