Haunting Of Hill House Returning To Netflix For Second Season

Rather than giving us a sequel, series creator Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy will be going for an anthology.

Netflix’s Haunting Of Hill House horror series came to such a perfect, bone-chilling end that it was hard to imagine what a possible second season would mean for the characters. Today, however, creators Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy announced the perfect solution: a brand new horror mystery.

Netflix revealed that there will be a second chapter in what’s now called The Haunting anthology, called The Haunting of Bly Manor, that follows brand new characters. Based on the title and some clues dropped in the first teaser, Bly Manor takes inspiration from the 1898 Henry James novella The Turn Of The Screw.

Rather than being a continuation of the first season, the streaming service has confirmed that the next chapter will feature all-new cast and story. Creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy will oversee the anthology series.

This choice thematically makes sense, since The Haunting Of Hill House was a loose adaptation of the 1959 novel from Shirley Jackson. It’s possible this adaptation will take a similar approach as the first chapter’s, modernising the gist of the story to take it in creatively creepy directions.

The original Hill House, which was released in 2018, was wildly popular on Netflix. It’s a modern reimagining of the classic 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson. When the Crain family is reunited by a tragedy, they individually must confront the ghosts they dealt with in their past.

The new season of Bly Manor will feature new characters and a new story and will be based on author Henry James’ 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw.

Netflix said the show will premiere in 2020.
