Avengers: Infinity War is going to be an exhibition of heroes from the various corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they unite for the first time. We’ve already heard that Thor, Rocket and Groot, Star-Lord and Iron Man and Spider-Man and Doctor Strange are going to be working together, amongst others. That last pairing, in particular, though looks an enticing prospect and, if the actors get their way, there could be a lot more of this team-up to come. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland both admit that the two characters should join forces for their own team-up movie.
Screen Rant spoke to both Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland as part of Avengers: Infinity War‘s press junket. The possibility of seeing this pairing again in future movies was discussed and both of them are fully on-board and even have ideas for how it could happen. When asked if they would like to cross paths again in a future movie, Cumberbatch replied “definitely,” followed by Holland’s “100%.” Cumberbatch then gave his own pitch for how it could happen.
“And even if it is, you know, doing a coffee run for one another or just like hanging out or we’ll go play ball in the park or it’s doing every day, start picking up our laundry. I would really like that to be expanded to something really fantastic.”
Holland had a few ideas of his own:
“I came up with an idea the other day that will never happen. Peter Parker is at school, has a mad, mad headache, rings up someone and says ‘I just really need your help. It’s really important.’ And then a voice says ‘OK,’ and then he goes over to your house and you’re dressed up as Doctor Strange and you’re ready to do business. And I’m like, ‘I have a headache. Do you know what this is?’ And I, because you’re a brain surgeon so you think I need you to like save the world again, but really I just need your doctor expertise I just need you to be a doctor.”
Fans are already aware that a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is somewhere on the cards, but there is still no news on when or if Doctor Strange 2 could come to theaters. The jury is out on whether Doctor Strange needs a sequel, and pairing up with Spidey could be one way around that conundrum. The Homecoming sequel is set as the first movie to film after Avengers 4, so watch this space as Doctor Strange could cameo in the next Spider-Man movie.
