Trial of Chicago 7: Aaron Sorkin’s Next Movie is Heading to Netflix

Aaron Sorkin is my favourite screenwriter of all time, period. We often talk about the auteur directors — directors who are the key creative force in their respective films and who have unique and distinct styles of filmmaking. It’s not often we talk about screenwriters the same way. Maybe it’s because while there are many good scriptwriters, there aren’t many whose pages are enveloped by a very noticeable sense of personality. Shane Black, Quentin Tarantino, Edgar Wright and Aaron f*cking Sorkin are just a few that come to mind.

Sorkin is the man behind the scripts of The Social Network, The Newsroom, West Wing, and A Few Good Men. And in 2017, he made his directorial debut with Molly’s Game, and while he isn’t as great a director as he is a writer, I can’t wait for his next movie, just to bask in his dialogue. Speaking of, we’ve got some updates on his next film, The Trial of Chicago 7Per Variety, Netflix has acquired the Sorkin film from Paramount Pictures. So yes, the film will be coming straight to the small screen, probably by the end of 2020 (this is the date Netflix is hoping to hit anyway).

The film sees Aaron Sorkin go back to his favourite sandbox of politics-related topics. It’s based on the Chicago Seven, a group of seven people charged by the United States federal government for conspiracy to incite riots, among other charges related to the anti-Vietnam War. The Trial of Chicago 7 stars Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. It’s gonna be awesome!
