We often get awed by the superstars in large scale action films. A combination of a good director and a charismatic performer helps you buy into the action on screen, so much so when these characters display incredible feats of strength, take on 200 people simultaneously or jump out of an aeroplane, you believe it completely. But rarely do the stuntmen and women actually performing these incredible acts for the actors, get any recognition. Well, perhaps April Wright’s documentary, Stuntwomen: The Untold Hollywood Story, will change that.
The documentary centres around some of the most badass women on the planet, doing their absolute best behind-the-scenes to make the actors look good on screen. But it’s not just about being an absolute beast at your craft, it’s also about manoeuvering the unequal Hollywood labyrinth that repeatedly fails to give these people the recognition they deserve.
