A Spider-Woman Movie is in the Works at Sony?

Over the past few years, Sony has been expanding their Spider-Man universe. Apart from Venom that hit the big screens a couple of years ago, we know that Sony is also working on a Madame Webb movie and developing Black Cat and Silver Sable films as well. The studio is also releasing Morbius next year (it was initially supposed to be released this year, but alas, COVID-19 has forced the studio’s hands).

Now, it looks like we’ll be getting a Spider-Woman film, as well. Deadline reports that Olivia Wilde has been tapped to helm a female-centric Marvel superhero film for Sony. While the reports have not confirmed which Marvel character this movie is going to be centred around, Wilde quote-Tweeted Deadline, with a Spider emoji.

While Olvia Wilde is mostly known for her work on screen, her 2019 directorial debut, Booksmart (trailer below) received high praise from critics. It really is one of the best comedies in recent years, in my opinion. It is also reported that the (possibly) Spider-Woman film will be penned by Katie Silberman, who was one of the co-writers of Booksmart.
