Can Infinity War Beat The Force Awakens At The Box-Office?

Disney properties rule the world.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven to be one of the most commercially successful franchises of all time and Avengers: Infinity War is unsurprisingly keeping that alive. The latest installment in the MCU is hitting all the marks outside North America, grossing $39 million in just a couple days and has yet to be released to North American audiences.

Disney is looking to hit the $210 million mark in North America and many believe it would surpass the record held by fellow Disney property Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $248 million. Pre-sales for Infinity War is also an indication as it has sold more pre-sale tickets than the last seven Marvel films combined including box-office smashes Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok and Captain America: Civil War.

With many regarding this as the film of the generation or the event of the summer, we can surmise that Infinity War will likely conquer some milestones, breaking some records in the process. It is hard to say if it will top The Force Awakens in the North American box-office as it still remains No.1 in Fandango’s box-office in terms of pre-sales followed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Infinity War taking the No.3 spot.

One thing is for certain, it seems like Disney is ruling the film market, setting records for various properties. It is uncertain if Infinity War could top the spot of James Cameron’s Avatar which currently stands as the highest grossing film of all time but it shouldn’t bother Disney too much. With all the money they’re making, they could afford to buy 3 Avatar films.
