Watch This Crushing Black Panther Deleted Scene Featuring Okoye and W’Kabi

This should have been in the movie.

Black Panther is by far the most critically acclaimed film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least on Rotten Tomatoes of which it currently stands with a 96% approval rating, the highest in the MCU. The film bolsters strong performances, engaging action sequences and a strong villain, something that was in short supply prior to the film’s release. However, it is revealed that the film could have been much stronger than the end product as a deleted scene from the film has surfaced concerning the characters of Okoye (Danai Guirira) and W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya).

The deleted scene reveals that Okoye and W’Kabi were married as the scene showcases their argument on the state of Wakanda along with their loyalty to T’Chala (Chadwick Boseman), who is well, the titular character in the film. USA Today revealed the clip which also features a commentary from director Ryan Coogler confirming their relationship.

Black Panther clearly implied something going on between both Okoye and W’Kabi but it was barely touched upon, emphasizing T’Chala’s story. While watching the film, there was an obvious connection between the two and something was clearly missing to further explore. This deleted scene could have been vital in filling that gap in the film as it is not just an interesting plot point but an emotionally resonant scene.

Both actors gave strong performances and this confrontation with one another provided a great struggle both in terms of political ideology and their friendship with T’Chala. The scene would also impact the film’s third act on a much bigger level as Okoye and W’Kabi fight on opposite sides.

It’s a wonder what happened that caused the scene to end up on the cutting room floor but hopefully, there’ll be more time to explore their relationship in the future.
