Donald Glover Says Being In Star Wars Is Like Being In The Bible

Glover reveals that Lando was the only role he’s ever truly wanted.

Star Wars has a passionate fanbase. For some of the actors who get to be involved with Lucasfilm movies, the work is just a job. For others, working on a Star Wars movie is the fulfillment of a childhood dream, akin to The Bible, if you ask Donald Glover. Glover made the comment during a red carpet appearance at the world premiere for his new movie in Los Angeles on Thursday.

When I heard they were making these, I told my agent ‘if they’re making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando. And he was like, ‘I hear you; I don’t like your odds.’ And that was exactly what I needed to hear. I really did audition like it was the only role I wanted in the world, because it really was. I’m just really happy to be a part of this. My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways.

Glover’s casting in the role was met with praise as soon as it was announced. Lando Calrissian was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in the original Star Wars trilogy. In the new film, Glover appears alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who plays a younger version of smuggler Han Solo. Glover, who has a hit TV show “Atlanta” on FX, also is a Grammy-winning singer, going by the stage name Childish Gambino.

As for Solo: A Star Wars Story in general, this movie, in particular, should be special for those involved in the production. The film is a prequel story, and a lot of its characters were portrayed by other actors many moons ago.

We won’t have too much longer to wait. Solo: A Star Wars Story officially hits theaters on May 24.
