Solo: A Star Wars Story Budget Is Higher Than The Force Awakens

Which is completely ridiculous!

Solo: A Star Wars Story has a lot riding on its shoulders. Following production difficulties that caused a change in directors along with a mixed early critical reception, it’s looking like an uphill battle for the latest instalment in the long-running franchise. Not only that, the production budget is now one of the highest in the franchise, more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to Variety, the production budget for Solo was more than $250 million, making it the most expensive Star Wars film ever made. Solo‘s problems during production was probably an issue as it allegedly doubled the budget according to sources from The Resistance Broadcast. A leap from a $125 million budget to $250 is no joke, and almost hard to believe due to it slated to be a big-budget blockbuster. Then again, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also went through re-shoots and costs about $200 million, so it’s a possibility.

Spin-offs are generally less costly to make as compared to its main series and they tend to make less as well. Solo would have to do really well at the box-office with all the trouble that has plagued them. One can’t help wonder if this is going to be the one that breaks the streak of good Star Wars films in recent years. Early reviews are indicating some trouble but there are some prospects of it securing a good box-office due to its success of advanced ticket sales surpassing Black Panther.

Along with Howard claiming Solo to be the most divisive Star Wars film to date, it looks like it could set a ripple in the Star Wars franchise from an executive standpoint. Well, all will be revealed once Solo hit theatres on May 25.
