Kylo Ren Is Better Than Darth Vader According To Donald Glover

Glover is a big fan of Adam Driver’s performance as Kylo Ren.

Star Wars fans are a passionate bunch. The popular opinion of these fans is that Vader is the greatest villain of the Star Wars franchise, and even in movie history. It’s almost blasphemous to suggest that Kylo Ren is a better bad guy than Darth Vader. Not according to Donald Glover apparently. Never one to shy away from headlines, Glover suggested just that.

According to Glover, Vader is more iconic, but Kylo Ren is more sympathetic and has the edge. The star of Solo: A Star Wars Story joined Noisey for a video questionnaire in which he was forced to pick one villain over the other, and he went with Adam Driver’s antagonist.

Kylo Ren has a really interesting sense of humour. He’s intense, I get his story. So I kind of have to go with Kylo Ren.

Glover’s opinion isn’t exactly baseless, as offensive as it may be to Star Wars fans. Kylo Ren is a very complex character. He is impulsive, yet at times juvenile and weak. He’s a character that audience members can relate to. He’s not more powerful or more successful than Vader, in fact, his flaws and failings make him all the more interesting as a character. Neither is it a question of whether or not Kylo Ren is more villainous or evil than the Sith Lord.

Glover stars as young Lando Calrissian in Solo opposite Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out cinemas now.
