Thanos Would’ve Beat Hulk Even Without The Power Stone According To The Infinity War Writers

Thanos is near invincible.

Avengers: Infinity War shocked many fans to their core. In the build-up to the release of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans began speculating wildly about the inevitable brawl between Thanos and the Incredible Hulk.

Such intense speculation even led to Mark Ruffalo warning viewers that the opening of Avengers: Infinity War would reduce the Hulk to a shell of his former self. And sure enough, just as the Mad Titan seized control of the Asgardian refugee ship, we see the Incredible Hulk get schooled in close-quarters combat by a being that’s just downright formidable. Fans have since pondered whether the Mad Titan was only able to best the Hulk due to him wielding the Power Stone during the fight.

In an interview with Collider, the movie’s writers revealed why that scene was included and who really is the strongest creature in the movie. Stephen McFeely believes that Thanos would’ve destroyed the Hulk with his own bare hands in Infinity War.

I think he could. I may be speaking out of turn, but I think Thanos could kick the Hulk’s ass without the (Power Stone).

This is sure to cause debate amongst fans with many convinced Hulk should be able to go toe to toe with Thanos without the stones.

When approaching that bleak intro scene, McFeely and his co-writer, Christopher Markus, wanted to establish Thanos as the biggest villain in the MCU, which ultimately came at the expense of Loki, who tried, in vain, to call on his mischievous ways one final time to beat Thanos.

We want to announce Thanos as the biggest villain in the MCU, so he takes out the previous reigning champion. And by defeating Hulk relatively easily and savagely, hopefully there’s a sense of dread over the course of the rest of the movie for anyone else who comes up against him.

It’s safe to say that Marvel succeeded in establishing Thanos as the number one villain by the end of the movie.
