Tom Holland On [Spoiler] Death In Avengers: Infinity War

After all this time.

*Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War*

Avenger: Infinity War was a roller-coaster of emotions for audiences and one of the reasons is due to the multitude of deaths in the film. Tom Holland who plays Peter-Parker (AKA Spider-Man) provided one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he falls under the same category with the many characters that suffered at the hands of Thanos. Tom Holland himself reveals a heartbreaking moment watching the film but it wasn’t his emotional death.

The secrecy of the film-making process for Infinity War required the cast to perform much of the scenes with minimal context surrounding the events that would ensue. Holland himself watched the film unaware of what was going to happen and the scene that got to him was Loki’s death. According to Comicbook, Holland spoke at Comicpalooza on the scene:

Tom Hiddleston at the beginning? Heartbreaking. That killed me.”

At the beginning of the film, Loki fell victim to Thanos, attempting to save the Asgardian survivors and his brother Thor. He attempts to stab Thanos in the throat only to have Thanos squeeze the life out of him. It was no doubt an emotional scene and was one of the first moments that made fans of the franchise aware of what they were about to witness.

Loki has had a tumultuous relationship in the MCU with many characters due to his deceptive behavior and this death somewhat serves as his moment of redemption. It’ll be interesting to see what unfolds in the MCU without Loki and how his death would impact future films. Thanos himself has said to Thor that there won’t be a resurrection for his brother this time around and that could be Marvel Studios indirectly telling us that this is the last time we’ll be seeing Loki.
