Silver and Black Director Is Still Working On The Script

Better to get it right than to rush it.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be soaring high with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man with the successes of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War but Sony hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet. The release of Venom later this year would the first installment in Sony’s Marvel Universe. Retaining but sharing (with Disney) the rights to Spider-Man, more films are on the horizon including one featuring Spider-Man anti-heroes Silver Sable and The Black Cat titled: Silver and Black.

It seems that the film is still in it early stages as director Prince-Bythewood has revealed that pre-production has yet to progress past script development. Speaking with Screen Rant, Prince-Bythewood was asked on Silver and Black. To which, she reiterated a tweet she made in February surrounding the film being delayed indefinitely.

“The update is just really pounding out the script. It all starts with the script. You gotta have a great script so we want to make sure that’s right before we jump in.”

Prince-Bythewood is definitely paying more emphasis on the script and seems to be highly meticulous in avoiding any missteps. Following the failure that is The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, she would be wise too. Prince-Bythewood is no doubt a competent film-maker, having directed acclaimed romantic dramas such as Love and Basketball and Beyond the Lights. We have yet to see her efforts in a film of this scale or genre but she has had experience as a director in Marvel’s upcoming series Cloak and Dagger.

Sony may have a lot to make up for and a long road to walk to catch up to the MCU but if they are able to tell different stories, it shouldn’t matter in the end. If Venom ends up being the success that it is, there could be a bright future for Sony’s Marvel Universe.
