J.K. Rowling Is Already Writing Script For Next Fantastic Beasts

More in store for the Wizarding World.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them may not be the best film set in the Wizarding World but it certainly gave us Potter-heads a fix. It was a fun ride and fans are anticipating the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald later this year. There’s more on the way as author of the beloved Harry Potter series and screenwriter for the Fantastic Beasts films J.K. Rowling is already working on the screenplay for next film in the series.

Serving as a spin-off and prequel to the acclaimed Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was met with positive reception and was a box-office success. Following former Hogwarts student Newt Schamander (Eddie Redmayne), the film managed to introduce a ton of new characters and tease a sequel revolving around dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Deep). Crimes of Grindelwald will also feature a younger Albus Dumbledore played by Jude Law and Lestrange family member, Leta.

It’s unsure how all of this will play out until the film is released but Rowling definitely has more in store for the series. In an online Q&A on her own website, she was asked on what she was currently working on. Rowling revealed that:

“I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, Lethal White, and I’m now writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3. After that I’ll be writing another book for children. I’ve been playing with the (non-Harry Potter/wizarding world) story for about six years, so it’s about time I get it down on paper.”

For those who are unaware, (Robert) Galbraith is her pseudonym used for her crime novels such as The Cuckoo’s Calling and Career of Evil. Rowling is hard at work at what she’s doing best and maybe The Crimes of Grindelwald would be the game-changer. Granted, the controversy surrounding casting Johnny Depp might turn some fans off but chances are, it’ll probably fare very well at the box-office.

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is no doubt living in the shadow of its juggernaut cousin and fans were hyped to return to the Wizarding World when it was announced. It may not have reached the levels of the films in the Harry Potter series but it managed to do what the other films in the series couldn’t, win an Oscar (for Best Costume Design). That’s gotta count for something right? Rowling seems to know what she’s doing and if the story is strong enough, it could stand alongside the adventures of Harry Potter and friends.
