Geoff Johns Stepping Down As DC Entertainment President And Chief Creative Officer

Things are probably gonna be different now.

The future of DC films is starting to look very different as Geoff Johns is stepping down as DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer. Johns has played an integral part in the DC community in regards to both the films and television shows pertaining to DC films along with his extensive contributions to the comics.

According to Variety, rumors have been circulating in regards to Johns departure as Warner Bros. promoted Walter Hamada to oversee its comic book films earlier in January. Hamada became president of DC’s film production but the studio has said that Johns would continue to advise on the creative direction of the productions.

Things don’t look to bad for Johns following the step-down as he will be transitioning to a new role and will be given a writing and producing deal with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Under this new deal, one of the first film projects he will undertake would be Green Lantern Corps.

The tumultuous state of the DC Extended Universe seems to be extending behind the scenes. Recent DC films have not provided a decent track record to rival their Marvel counterpart. Most of their films have received mixed to negative critical responses with films like Suicide Squad, Batman V. Superman and Justice League (which Johns served as producer). Wonder-Woman is often considered as the only ‘good’ film in the DCEU and its sequel will have Johns co-writing it alongside Patty Jenkins. Johns also co-wrote the story for the upcoming Aquaman film.

Johns has served as a monumental figure in DC. Although, he may not be completely out, it looks like the future of DC is uncertain. It’s really unsure what direction will be taken but hopefully, it’s for the better.
