Captain Marvel To Introduce First Ever Female Composer In The MCU

It doesn’t mean it’ll be good or bad but it sure is a comforting notion.

Marvel Studios is going far in regards to diversifying its operation both on screen and behind the scenes. Along with the recent Black Panther film, being the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature a black lead, the upcoming Captain Marvel will be the first female led film in the MCU. Captain Marvel will not only feature their first female lead in an MCU film, played by Brie Larson as the titular character but Turkish-American composer Pinar Toprak is set to be the first female composer in the MCU as she will be providing the music for Captain Marvel.

Toprak revealed through Instagram that she is to compose the music for Captain Marvel becoming the first woman to do so in an MCU film. Toprak has composed several smaller films such as The River Murders and Last Will but has also provided additional music for the DC blockbuster, Justice League. She also composed the music for Syfy’s Krypton.

It’s great to see Captain Marvel bring another female to the crew. The film is doing all it can with providing vital roles to women including becoming the first MCU film to feature a female director, Anna Boden (alongside co-director Ryan Fleck). It also features six female writers out of seven (god knows why they need so many). Marvel doesn’t look like it’ll be stopping here however as plans to introduce muslim superhero Ms. Marvel into the MCU seems to be on the horizon.

This doesn’t say anything about the quality of the film as it could suck whether it’s directed by a male or female also it could come off as Marvel just aiming to fill a diversity quota but it does indicate that Marvel is more than willing to provide opportunities for diverse groups of people.
