Jeff Goldblum Interested In Returning For Jurassic World 3

Maybe it’ll be like the good old days.

Love them or hate them, the Jurassic World films have proven to be widely successful box office hits. It may have lacked the heart and thrills of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park that kicked it all off but managed to capture an audience. The latest installment Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom managed to bring a little of that charm back with the return of iconic Ian Malcolm played ever so brilliantly by Jeff Goldblum. Despite being a relatively brief scene in the film, it was nice to have him back and it seems that Goldblum is interested in returning for Jurassic World 3.

The original Jurassic Park saw the character of Ian Malcolm bringing in some much appreciated comic relief and coolness to the film as a supporting character. It’s safe to say that the film would have been entirely different without him. He took on the lead role in the sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park but the character did not exude as much charisma as he did in the first one but was still pretty cool. We saw his return in Fallen Kingdom after many years in a brief scene. Jurassic World 3 is set to be released in 2021 and Goldblum has expressed interest in returning. Speaking to Collider, he was asked on whether his role in Fallen Kingdom served as a precursor to having a bigger role in the next film which is set to be directed Colin Trevorrow, director of Jurassic World. He said:

“Who knows? I’m curious about it, you know. If nothing else happens I’d be entirely satisfied and nourished and lucky and thrilled to have done all of this, if I can be any service, that’s my posture and authentic feeling. But I’ve kind of nosed around because I’ve had such a great time, and [Trevorrow] is so good, we did that jeep commerical, he directed that, he’s awful good. I’d like to work with him more on anything.”

It’ll be great to see Goldblum in the next one in a much bigger role. Fallen Kingdom isn’t sitting too well with fans and critics based off critical reception on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Although it can be argued that the film is still a fairly decent time at the movies, the diminishing critical reception could indicate lack of interest in the next film. Perhaps, with the inclusion of Goldblum a little more, fans will be back on board for the series.

However, it’s best not to just shoe-horn a beloved character in there if it doesn’t serve a purpose. Trevorrow is a good filmmaker and Jurassic World is still a pretty good blockbuster flick, perhaps with him back in the director’s chair (he didn’t direct Fallen Kingdom by the way), the final film can provide us the Jurassic film that rivals the Spielberg classic.
