Aquaman: SPOILER Already Dead In The Film’s Setting

Well, that’s a bummer.

Aquaman is likely one of the most anticipated films of the year with a star studded cast featuring Jason Momoa as the titular character, Amber Heard and the legendary Nicole Kidman along with James Wan directing. It seems that much of the events of the film may go a little different than expected as Nicole Kidman’s role as Queen Atlanna may not be as significant as we thought it would be.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Amber Heard who plays Mera in the upcoming Aquaman and recent Justice League revealed that Queen Atlanna is already dead in the events of the film. It also looks like Mera will serve as he successor ruling aside King Orm, played by Patrick Wilson. She spoke on her character Mera:

“She’s a warrior who was raised by the queen of Atlantis before she passed. We meet Mera after the queen has long since left and she’s been raised to take over as queen her whole life.”

Atlanna’s passing was somewhat teased in Justice League when Mera says “I knew her” to Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman. Audiences did not really catch up on that and Nicole Kidman’s involvement as Atlanna was met with excitement that would honestly cause some assumptions to the character’s significance in the film. Atlanna will no doubt be in the film but most likely through means of flashbacks, perhaps at the start of the film but with her prevalence in the marketing, there is a chance of seeing her a little more.

There is a possibility of her inclusion in the present timeline as the comics have followed a story-line in which Atlanna faked her death and founded a haven for sea dwelling refugees. It will still be fun to see Kidman back in a DC film since her role in Joel Schumacher’s comically awful Batman Forever. Hopefully now she’ll be involved in a ‘good’ DC film but all will only be revealed Aquaman hits theaters this December.
