Why Peyton Reed Avoided Avengers Cameos In Ant-Man And The Wasp

You’d expect there to be some cameos right?

Arguably the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp have nothing to do with the film itself, but rather how it will tie into the overall story happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly how it will tie into the events of Avengers: Infinity War, if at all. The only thing we know at this point is that it takes place just before and/or during the events in Wakanda and Titan seen in Avengers: Infinity War. Whether the endings of both films will align is another question altogether.

With how intertwined all of these movies are, you’d expect at least some level of overlap this time around. Well, one thing it appears we can rule out would be seeing any of our beloved other Marvel heroes pop up in cameo appearances in Ant-Man and the Wasp. During a talk with CinemaBlend, director Peyton Reed talked about keeping cameos out of his film.

Peyton Reed said: “I always envisioned this as a standalone movie. Obviously, when you see the movie you’ll see how it ties into the larger universe, but I like that Hope and Scott and Hank are operating in this little corner of the universe.

“And I like that because it reminds me of the Marvel comics where you have the Avengers doing something here, and Spider-Man is doing something, and Black Panther is doing something, and Iron Man… they’ve got their own thing… And then there’s cross-pollination. And this felt like we had already set up… we had enough characters to service in this movie. It was exciting just telling the Scott-Hope partnership story, [which] was a big deal. And introducing Wasp. That to me was exciting and a big responsibility.

However, just because Ant-Man and The Wasp doesn’t feature an Avenger doesn’t mean it won’t tie into Avengers: Infinity War.

Ant-Man and The Wasp stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly), Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Michael Pena, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, and T.I.

Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out on July 6.
