Laurence Fishburne Does Not Think He Will Return To The DCEU

How will the Daily Planet survive?.

Everyone remembers Laurence Fishburne’s role as Perry White, editor for The Daily Planet in Man of Steel back in 2013. He returned to reprise his role in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice which saw the anticlimactic union of both Superman and Batman on the big screen in this piece of disappointment. One would assume he would return for Justice League for another anticlimactic union of several iconic comic book characters on the big screen but he did not. It seems there may be some reason for that as Fishburne’s stint in the DCEU may be over.

Fishburne is a pretty known actor having played prominent roles in works such as Boyz N the Hood and who could forget? The Matrix series before heading to the DCEU. Things may be a little uncertain in the DCEU to say the least including his role in the franchise. Speaking to Den of Geek during a promotion for his latest endeavor in a superhero film but this time in the MCU for the film Ant-Man & The Wasp, he thinks his days in the DCEU may be over. He said:

I don’t think I’m still on call. I was unfortunately unable to go do some work on what turned out to be the Justice League movie. I don’t know that I need to go back or if they’ll have me back or not, but I was grateful to have been a part of it. I loved working with Zack (Snyder), I think he makes an incredible superhero movie. I’m just excited to be a part of this (the MCU) now.

It looks like Man of Steel 2 will not likely include him. If it were the case, it’s a wonder how they’ll take his character in regards to whether to remove him entirely or re-cast. Now that he’s working for the ‘enemy’, this is sorta his second stint with Marvel having provided the voice for the Silver Surfer in that Fantastic Four film that we rather not talk about. Well, it’s been a great run for Fishburne in the DCEU but this doesn’t confirm anything just yet. He might get a last minute call to reprise his role but chances are pretty low.
