Stan Lee Makes Return With Emotional Video Message To Fans

Stan Lee tells fans he’s back and pledges to stay in touch more.

In the wake of a whirlwind confounding, and concerning, reports involving legal battles, hijacked social-media accounts and accusations of elder abuse, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee has returned to Twitter with a video message intended to reassure fans.

Beloved for his role in the creation of such iconic superheroes as Spider-Man, the Avengers and the X-Men, Lee has become ubiquitous in Marvel Studios films. In his video, he appears determined to reestablish that image rather than go into any specifics about the recent turmoil in his life.

In a video posted Thursday on Twitter, Stan Lee had a message for fans he called “close, close friends”: “I’m back.” The Marvel Comics icon added: “You’re my friends, I’m your friend, and we’re not gonna let anything come between that arrangement.”

“It’s taken me a while to get used to being 79 years old,” joked Lee, who turned 95 in December. “We’ve been together so many generations, and I don’t want that to stop.” Lee also promised that this latest video is only the first in a new series. “I’m warning you, I’m back again with new energy and new care, and new protestations of the fact that I love my fans.”

It’s been rough several months for Lee, who lost his wife, Joan, last year and was briefly hospitalized in February. His illness was followed by a string of legal difficulties, including a fraud lawsuit against his former manager. Lee also accused other unnamed people of falsely running social media accounts his name, but recently took control of his Twitter account, posting several videos addressing everything from those legal issues to that Thanos finger-snap in Infinity War.
