Star Wars Production Designer Reveals That Tatooine Was Planned For Upcoming Spin-off

We don’t know what spin-off though.

The state of the Star Wars film franchise is relatively unclear at this point, at least in regards to its upcoming plans. We know that Episode IX will be released next year in December but the underwhelming returns of Solo: A Star Wars Story leaves a lot of things in the air in regards to future spin-offs. We’ve heard of an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off and also a Boba Fett film directed by James Mangold (Logan) but nothing else is officially known. We do know one thing and that that an iconic Star Wars location is in the works or at least was.

Tatooine is one of the most iconic locations in film history having been an essential part of the franchise since the beginning and also a part of the prequels. It seem that there are plans for the location however as Lucasfilm’s production designer Neil Lamont revealed that he and his team have begun crafting a Tatooine set for an unknown spin-off.

Speaking to Cinemablend, Lamont revealed that they have begun working on the set, saying:

We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off and yeah. We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine — which would have been interesting and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we’ll get the chance to be able to do that further.

We don’t really know what it’s for but it does seem likely that it may reside in the Boba Fett or Obi-Wan spin-off. However, this project could different however as Making Star Wars reported in June that sources from Pinewood Studios have pointed to a film along the lines of a Mos Eisley Spaceport spin-off but nothing has been confirmed of course and even that is highly unclear.

No one really knows what’s going on with Star Wars but for now, the best course of action is to deliver another good film in the new trilogy (Yes, The Last Jedi was good).
