Ewan McGregor Expresses Interest In Returning For A Christopher Robin Sequel

He loves him some Pooh.

Star Wars veteran and recent Disney actor Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in reprising his leading role in Christopher Robin if Disney should decide to make a sequel. In the film, McGregor plays an older version of the classic cartoon character Christopher Robin who struggles to keep his work life and family together. All that changes though when Pooh and all his other stuffed animal friends decide to come over to the real world to give Robin a hand. Robin will rekindle childhood and find life in adulthood.

In an interview with IOL, McGregor admits that the story of Christopher Robin bears (get it?) a special significance for him, having the stories been read to him by his mother and him to his daughters. He expressed great interest in returning for a sequel to the film, saying:

Totally ready for the sequel. It was never mentioned when we shot it [but] I’d be happy to do it again. I’d be up for it. I’ll sign on the dotted line right now.”

What can I say? The man loves him some Pooh. Beyond his role in an upcoming Stephen King film adaptation Doctor Sleep in 2020, McGregor as now seems relatively freed up. They were rumours of him being tapped for an Obi Wan Kenobi film but Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to confirm any of them currently.

Nonetheless, if a sequel for Christopher Robin ever goes into production, McGregor should definitely return to the role. The actor manages to bring a charm to the character that just so perfectly captures the spirit of the old Winnie the Pooh books and cartoons. Though with the story of Christopher Robin mostly wrapped up in the film, there might not be much of a reason for Disney to develop more films, then again box office sales may have something to say. For now however, McGregor will have to say goodbye and farewell to his role… for now.
