Idris Elba Will Not Be the Next James Bond

The British actor breaks the hearts of 007 fans.

We’ve been through this before. Rumors circulate that Idris Elba might be the next James Bond, then Idris Elba firmly shuts down rumors that he’ll be the next James Bond. It’s a never-ending cycle. Regardless, it’s still hard to hear Idris Elba confirm that he is not going to be the next James Bond.

Two weeks ago, rumors began to circulate that James Bond producers were considering Elba for the role of 007. A few days later, Elba himself had a little fun with this round of rumors with a few cryptic tweets about playing Bond. This sent the internet into a fury of speculation and even rage, that Elba could be considered. And let’s be perfectly clear, there’s no reason why Elba can’t play Bond. But the problem is, he’s pretty clearly confirmed again that he’s not the next James Bond actor.

Good Morning Britain tracked down Elba on Wednesday and asked him if he’d be the next person to play Bond. “No,” Elba replied.

There you have it. Doesn’t get much more cut and dry, as far as these things go. Idris Elba had previously indicated that he felt he was too old for the role at this point in his career. Elba is 45-years-old now, meaning that he would be pushing 50 by the time he got around to it since Daniel Craig is still playing the part in next year’s James Bond 25.

For now, the producers and creative team are focused on finding someone to helm James Bond 25 who can help send Daniel Craig’s 007 off in fashion. Danny Boyle, who was on board to direct, recently departed the project. At the present time, there is no word on who they are officially looking at or whether or not there will be any delay as a result of that search. Though, there are rumors that Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie could emerge as a frontrunner.
