Sicario 2 Composer To Score Joaquin Phoenix Joker Film

Seems like a decent fit.

The Joaquin Phoenix Joker film (Yes, that’s what we’ll be calling it until we get an official title) is something that would likely confuse some audiences. Set to be separate from the DCEU (At least for now, god knows what Warner Bros is up to), the film boasts a pretty interesting cast including the aforementioned Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron. Todd Philips, director of the Hangover films will helm the project and now, we know that Sicario 2 composer, Hildur Gudnadottir is on board as well.

Film Music Reporter reports that Gudnadottir will score the forthcoming DC film which will be set in the 1980s. She is a classically trained Icelandic cellist and has plenty of experience under her belt when it comes to the music scene having toured with bands like Animal Collective and Sunn O. She provided the score for Sicario: Day of the Soldado earlier this year which we can argue to be one of the best aspects of the film. She also collaborated with the late Johann Johannsson (who composed the score for the first Sicario) in Mary Magdalene which also starred Phoenix.

This does sound like pretty good news since she is a pretty good composer and she sure as hell is a good musician. Say what you want about Sicario 2 but the music was still really good and had an ominous feel to it that would probably work really well for the Joker film. The film is looking to be a gritty crime thriller and the Sicario films were that so it seems like this is a good choice.

Some may still be skeptical about this Joker film but with these names attached to it, the film is looking to be a good one. After Suicide Squad, we could use a proper Joker.
