Star Wars Star Kelly Marie Tran Is Unsure If She’ll Ever Return To Social Media

She deleted her social media accounts due to trolls.

Racist Star Wars trolls may have forced Kelly Marie Tran off social media for good, as the actress has confirmed that she doesn’t know ‘if I’ll ever go back’

‘I felt like I wanted to write something that was honest, that truly came from me and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back,’ said the actress who appeared as Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, becoming the franchise’s first Asian lead.

Her comments comes after she wrote an op-ed in which she revealed that she didn’t remove her social media accounts because of the comments themselves, but because she started to believe them.

Writing for the New York Times, Kelly said: ‘Their words seemed to confirm what growing up as a woman and a person of colour already taught me: that I belonged in margins and spaces, valid only as a minor character in their lives and stories.

But now, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Tran has said although she believes that there are ‘just like anything else, really good and really bad things that come with anything’ she is not ready to return to confront the trolls.

Obviously, social media can be a fun place for celebrities to engage with fans, but when people get upset about a movie or TV project or about something that happened in pop culture, it can be a devastating place, as well. Still, regardless of the online atmosphere, Kelly Marie Tran still made history as an Asian actress in the Star Wars universe and will next be appearing in Star Wars: Episode IX when it hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
