Since we haven’t gotten much news on a Man of Steel 2 amidst the whole Henry Cavill fiasco recently, it’s good to know that some other projects in the DCEU are moving forward. Of course, we have Aquaman later this year along with Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 next year but we already know those things are coming. However, we’ve also been hearing about plans for a Birds of Prey film with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) back on board along with a slew of other well known characters in the DC comics. It looks like those plans are coming into fruition with filming to begin early next year.
The latest report from Production Weekly‘s recent listing (via Pursue News) has revealed that Birds of Prey will begin filming on January 14 in Los Angeles. Not only that, the film has also been given a pretty interesting working title, titled Fox Force Five and it seems pretty fitting. Fox Force Five is the name of a fictional television series in Quentin Tarantino’s classic Pulp Fiction in which Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) had a brief stint in as an actress. The series follows the exploits of all-female team of secret agents with Mia as one of the five, each of them possessing a set of unique abilities.
If the film is looking to somewhat emulate this, it does seem likely that the film is also looking for a five member all-female team up. This would likely include Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Cassandra Cain, Huntress and Renee Montoya. There have been some suggestions that Barbara Gordon would be in the film along with Black Mask as the villain but nothing is entirely certain for now.
This is pretty good news as the film is definitely moving forward now. There’s plenty of ways this film could go and with Harley Quinn back (The only redeeming aspect of Suicide Squad), people would be interested including general audiences. Production is starting earlier than I honestly expected so things may be going pretty well.
