Netflix To Develop New Chronicles Of Narnia TV Series And Movies

At least something’s happening for this series.

C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series is considered a pretty importance piece of fantasy literature, seeing three big screen film adaptations a while back. The first one, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe saw good success both critically and commercially but the other two, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, well… not as much. We haven’t gotten much word on the fourth one planned, The Silver Chair but there is word on the series itself and it may be some pretty good news.

Netflix has acquired the rights to the series and, announcing that the streaming service will be developing new television series and films based off the books. Netflix and the C.S Lewis company have made a multi year agreement to develop new adaptations for the beloved source material.

There are seven books in total and Netflix has acquired the rights to all of them so there’s a lot they can do with the source material. The company has proven to be one of the best streaming services with their catalog of great series, many of which are under their own banner. Their films have seen a number of misses but but their series have always been promising and have been able to deliver some great stuff.

We don’t know much about how The Silver Chair would pan out with all this but director Joe Johnston (October Sky, Captain America: The First Avenger) has been attached to helm the project for some time. It’s unclear if they would be moving on with this or if it would be scrapped but if you came this far, might as well. The source material’s in the right hands though so hopefully they’ll be able to deliver a fantasy epic that would rival HBO’s Game of Thrones (Granted, probably not as adult).
