Ant-Man 2 Director Has Considered Making Janet A Villain

Ant-Man and The Wasp’s director confirms they’ve discussed turning Janet van Dyne into a villain.

Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) is a big character introduced in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp. While the character was seen as one of the good guys in the film, director Peyton Reed revealed in a recent interview that they did consider making her a villain, something which is still possible in the future movies.

What happens to someone after they spend 30 years in the quantum realm? This is one of the discussions that the director had with the writers while making the film. In an interview with CBR, Reed said that among the discussions he had, they talked about who Janet has become after staying down there for so long.

Her time in the quantum realm has certainly affected her, and Reed said they chose to only show certain aspects of it in the film, which means that there is more to see in the future movies.

Reed was specifically asked about whether they considered making Janet a villain. The director confirmed that they indeed talked about it, but refrained from saying anything more, and suggested that speaking more on the subject would be straying into spoiler territory.

The quantum realm is a huge universe in itself, and the film was only able to show a fraction of the things people will encounter there. Reed confirmed that Janet had a whole life there, and her encounter with a creature proves that there are things that have been left open for future movies to explore.

A big part of the quantum realm may be revealed in the upcoming Avengers 4 movie, in which Paul Rudd is reprising his role as Ant-Man. The character was last seen trapped in the quantum realm, unable to escape because all the others on the outside were turned into dust.
