Sherlock Creators To Develop Dracula Television Series For BBC

Sounds like this could be something worth watching

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is quite possibly one of the most iconic pieces of literature that’s been adapted numerous times much like another popular classic source material (which I will get into in a while). We’ve seen plenty of Dracula adaptations with Christopher Lee’s iconic portrayal being the most popular but today, we haven’t seen a lot of live-action ones (The animated Castlevania series is great by the way). One iconic piece of literature has seen a modern re-telling among many and that is Sherlock Holmes and now we may get something to link the two together (sorta).

BBC’s Sherlock was one hell of a ride (at least in the first three seasons) and its creators Mark Gatiss (who also played Mycroft in the show) and Steven Moffat are bringing another iconic character from classic literature to life. In case you haven’t picked up on this yet, Gatiss and Moffatt are developing a Dracula miniseries.

Variety reports that Netflix and BBC are developing a Dracula series with the team behind Sherlock attached to it. BBC has commissioned three 90 minute episodes with Netflix carrying the show in most markets outside the U.K. Unlike Sherlock which takes place in modern time, Dracula will be set in 1897 and will revolve around the character setting his sights on Victorian Era London. Gatiss and Moffatt had this to say:

“There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”

If anyone can do it, it’s them. It’s unsure if this series would be as good as Sherlock but it should at least be better than season 4 cause god, season 4 was horrible. Dracula is making sort of a comeback thanks to Castlevania so maybe this is the right time to have a major live-action adaptation. As long as they don’t Sherlock season 4-it up.
