We’ve seen plenty of adaptations of the literary landmark that is Little Women by author Louisa May Alcott and they’ve all mostly just faded away into oblivion. Okay, not really but the story is so iconic that the countless adaptations have never been the prime focus when you hear those two words together. There’s gonna be another crack at the iconic source material from Lady Bird director, Greta Gerwig that will see two of its stars back together, Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet.
Following the critical reception of the Oscar nominated Lady Bird, Gerwig might hit another one out of the park with this adaptation. She has proven to be a masterful coming-of-age filmmaker and Little Women has plenty to do with that sub-genre of film. The stars and director seems pretty excited for the film as Chalamet shares a picture on Instagram of Gerwig and Ronan together rehearsing a few weeks ago. The picture is blurry probably for aesthetic purposes cause Chalamet seems the artsy type and shows Ronan hugging Gerwig from behind. Check it out below:
This doesn’t really say much but it does hype up the film a little bit for that 2019 release. Little Women film adaptations have never been all that note-worthy despite being pretty good. One can just say that the stature of the novel may have overshadowed it but plenty of iconic novels have seen just as iconic films such as The Lord of the Rings or even To Kill a Mockingbird. Perhaps Gerwig would be the one to provide us an adaptation to remember with an Oscar caliber cast to lead it.
