Michael Rooker On James Gunn Firing And Suicide Squad 2

Sticking by James as always.

Disney’s move on firing James Gunn from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a controversial one to say the least. The filmmaker who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films was fired a while ago after a bunch of old, offensive tweets of his surfaced which caused one hell of an uproar in the community. Some people agreed with the move by Disney but there were a ton of people who were in support of the filmmaker including the cast of the Guardians films.

Things are looking pretty good for Gunn though as he is now attached to write the script for the DCEU’s Suicide Squad 2. The cast of the Guardians including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana released a statement on the matter expressing support for the director. Dave Bautista who played Drax in the films was especially vocal in his support for Gunn even opting quitting if Gunn’s script isn’t used. Michael Rooker who plays Yondu in the films also wasn’t too happy about it and he still feels the same way but it looks like he’s pretty happy that Gunn is attached with a new gig.

According to Comicbook, Rooker spoke at Walker Stalker convention in Atlanta, the topic of Gunn’s firing. He was asked for his thoughts on the matter, to which he said:

“It’s terrible, isn’t it? Yeah, but oh well, guess what? He’s on a gig already. Suicide Squad, that’s right. He’s writing it and directing it as well,”

We don’t really know for sure if Gunn will directing so Rooker saying this could either be wishful thinking or he could maybe be a little informed on the matter. Gunn could be considered but for now, let’s just assume he’s not and perhaps wait for Warner Bros. to confirm that last bit of news. However, Rooker could be interested in being a part of Suicide Squad 2 but we’ll see.
