Captain Marvel Will Explore Nick Fury’s Origin And How He Lost His Eye

That would be awesome to see.

With its 1990s setting, Captain Marvel will serve as a prequel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe set years before its first installment, Iron Man way back in 2008. There is a ton of anticipation for the film since it’s well… a Marvel film and also the first female-led MCU film. We’re probably going to expect the film and the character of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) to provide something cool along with some information on what we can expect from Avengers: Endgame. However, Carol wouldn’t be the only character being highlighted in the film however as she would be joined by some familiar faces.

The film would be seeing younger versions of the characters we’ve come to know from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ll be seeing Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and a pre-eyepatched Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the film so that would be pretty cool. However, it looks like Nick Fury would be given a little more meat to his character along with exploring what happened to his eye.

Jackson spoke to Entertainment Tonight during their Captain Marvel set visit and revealed that fans would be seeing a lot of Fury’s origin in the film along with what happened to his eye. He said:

“You’ll see, specifically, the origin of what happened to his eye. You’ll find out that he does have a family, that’s referenced. You don’t see them, but they are referenced in another way. There are things we talk about in his backstory that haven’t been talked about before — where he’s from, what he’s done. There are times when he actually, humanly reacts to things with fear and awe, instead of the stone face that he normally has, before he learns to control his emotions in another way.

We don’t talk about none of his war experiences. We talk about him being in the war, leaving the war, being a spy and some of the things he did when he was a spy that got him to this particular place. So, we get more of a backstory, and we get more of what turns him into this person that you originally meet in Iron Man.”

Damn, that is going to provide a chunk for his character and damn, we’re actually going to see what happened to his eye! That would no doubt be pretty cool and it’s certain that Marvel wouldn’t just shove things in for the sake of it so you know it’s gonna be handled relatively well. Captain Marvel is going to introduce a new character, no doubt but it would also give us more on a character we’ve come to know and love.
