Check Out The First Teaser Trailer For Crazy Rich Asians

We’re looking forward to this one.

The teaser trailer for Crazy Rich Asians has just been released showcasing the film’s leads along with the grandiose setting present in the book. Based on the book by Kevin Kwan of the same name, the film is directed by Jon M. Chu off Step Up and G.I. Joe fame ( granted, they weren’t very good) and stars Constance Wu along with newcomer Henry Golding.

The film revolves around Chinese-American Rachel Chu and her boyfriend Nick Young as they attend his friend’s wedding in Singapore. Upon arriving there, she meets Nick’s family and learns of their enormous wealth, which in turn brings up a set of problems as she is engulfed by the extravagant lifestyle of Singapore’s upper-class society.

Based on the teaser, the film seems to thread the conventions and tropes synonymous with the ‘chick flick’ genre. The ‘chick flick’ genre has been commonly associated with derogatory sentiment by many audiences even those who partake in it, deeming them as ‘guilty pleasures’.

The novel received positive reception from various publications echoing Kwan’s ability to deliver guilty pleasures and the film will no doubt deliver on this front. The familial relationships and the cultural differences between the character of Rachel and Nick’s family, his mother of whom is played by Michelle Yeoh from Tomorrow Never Dies fame will provide plenty of over the top drama and comedy to entertain audiences.

Crazy Rich Asians will probably not be a contender come award season later but with the film will likely hit the mark for those looking for some simple familial shenanigans anchored by a cast of good-looking people.

Crazy Rich Asians is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 17, 2018, worldwide.
