MOWGLI Trailer: Andy Serkis’ Take On The Jungle Book Looks To Be Much Darker Than Disney’s

And it’s not a sequel to The Jungle Book.

Warner Bros. has dropped the trailer for MOWGLI, another adaptation of the classic works of Rudyard Kipling. Not to be confused as a sequel to Disney’s The Jungle Book in 2016 but as an entirely new property from Warner Bros. starring Rohan Chand, Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto. The creatures of the jungle are voiced by Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris and Andy Serkis (who also serves as director).

The trailer suggests Mowgli inhabiting a village but as a prisoner, as he is caged and set apart from the other villagers. It is safe to say that Mowgli has been found by the villagers and chances are, he probably acted up and needed to be kept apart from the rest. Most of the plot remains vague but from this, we can tell that the villagers will be playing a big part in this story especially with Freida Pinto looking to be a prominent character.

It was only two years since the release of 2016’s acclaimed The Jungle Book. The film was also a major hit at the box-office earning over $950 million at the box-office and a sequel was in talks since then. The talks of the sequel for the film have been put on hold however as Jon Favreau would be too busy working on another live-action Disney remake The Lion King.

This looks like it may differ from Disney’s adaptation due to its darker tone from its use of foreboding music and the situation Mowgli finds himself in. It’s unsure how this film will be focused but it definitely seems to be going a different route but it’s still a wonder if there would still be some lighter moments thrown in the mix for good measure.

The film does provide some stunning scenery but the CGI can look a little too CGI but Disney’s The Jungle Book surprised us, so who knows?
