[SDCC18] The Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Trailer Looks Epic

Sheer. Scale.

The new Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer is out and it may serve up one massive roar on the big screen. Part of Legendary’s Monsterverse, the film is directed by Michael Dougherty and will feature one hell of a cast including the likes of Vera Farminga (The Conjuring), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Wolf of Wall Street), Sally Hawkins (Shape of Water) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley). The film is set to see Godzilla colliding with other gigantic beats such as Mothra, Rodan and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

The trailer serves up some spectacular visuals along with a look at these gigantic beasts and they seem frightful and wonderful at the same time. The sweeping music that accompanies the trailer also has a part to do with that as it not only emphasizes the sheer scale of these monsters but also the dire stakes surrounding much of what will be going down.

The trailer looks like it could go a little Jurassic park-ish with some horror elements along with how Madison played by Millie Bobby Brown was attempting to ‘pet’ or touch one of the beasts. The destruction these creatures are bringing also seem astronomical and if it looks this crazy on the small screen, imagine how it’ll be in theaters. Granted, there are a number of creatures on screen and it may cause the film to be a bit bloated but hell, I’m optimistic.

I’ll admit, I had my doubts with this but the first Godzilla back in 2014, despite its flaws, really offered a great sense of scale (granted, I was sitting in the front row). If they manage to capture some of that magic back, this film could serve up one hell of a feast. Along with plans of a Godzilla vs. Kong film, this could really help establish Legendary’s Monsterverse in the blockbuster scene.
