Sylvester Stallone Expresses Regret In Killing Off Character In Rocky IV

Maybe it was a necessary sacrifice.

The Rocky films have seen some ups and downs in regards to its quality but the characters have maintained pretty damn cool throughout. It’s pretty impressive to see the franchise still kicking today thanks to the Creed films which brought some new life to series with Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed taking the lead. Adonis, who is the son of Apollo Creed definitely did some cool s–t but his dad was one hell of a crazy dude.

If you’ve never seen any of the Rocky films, look away. Oh, and… you should! But if you have, you’d know that Apollo was one hell of a character, staring off as an enemy to Rocky and then becoming friends in Rocky III. Rocky IV saw the two maintain this friendship… for a while until the main antagonist Ivan Drago took Apollo’s life in a boxing match. This served as Rocky’s motivation for the film which probably ended up becoming the most cartoonish film in the series.

It’s still a pretty fun flick but damn! Rocky did avenge his boy in the end by beating Drago but it looks like Sylvester Stallone has expressed some regret in killing off Apollo. Stallone who starred in and wrote the Rocky films took to Instagram to wish Apollo actor Carl Weathers a happy birthday. While doing so, he expressed regret in not keeping the character around longer. Check out the post below:

Well, if it wasn’t for that death, we wouldn’t have gotten those awesome Creed films starring Jordan and Stallone wouldn’t have gotten another Oscar nomination. However, you gotta wonder if the series would have been different if Apollo wasn’t killed but whatever, we’ll never know. Then again, it’s Hollywood so we might even get an alternate universe spin-off Apollo film.
